ST. LOUIS - Five Salukis earned 2013 All-Missouri Valley Conference honors, the conference announced Monday. Utility player Austin Montgomery, starting pitcher Cody Forsythe and relief pitcher Todd Eaton were selected to the second team. Second baseman Jake Welch and relief pitcher Tyler Dray each earned an honorable mention. It is the third All-Conference honor for Montgomery and Forsythe and the second for Eaton.

"We're extremely proud of these young men," SIU Coach Ken Henderson said. "Each one of them is well-deserving of these outstanding honors."

Montgomery, a senior, ranks fourth in the Missouri Valley with a .349 batting average. He also ranks among the top four hitters in the conference in slugging percentage (.541), hits (76), runs batted in (46), doubles (17), home runs (7) and total bases (118). Montgomery started 32 games in right field, 13 in left field, eight games at third base and one as the designated hitter. He was named to the All-MVC First Team as a utility player in 2012 and was an honorable mention in 2010.

Forsythe is ninth in the MVC with a 3.23 ERA. In conference play, the senior captain has posted a 2.79 ERA and held opponents to a .216 batting average. His 92 innings are the second most pitched in the Valley this season. Forsythe was also a second-team All-Conference selection in 2012 and a first-team selection in 2011. He is the conference's active leader in games started and innings pitched.

Eaton, a junior, is tied for the conference lead with nine saves in 2013. The Saluki closer is tied for fourth in the Valley with 25 relief appearances. He has recorded a 3.18 ERA and 28 strikeouts in 28 and a third innings this season. This is his second consecutive All-MVC Second Team selection.

Welch is tied for second in the Valley with 51 runs scored. The junior started 46 games at second base and nine at shortstop. He ranks third in the conference with 76 hits and 20 stolen bases in 23 attempts. This season he has hit .333 in 21 conference games and .321 overall.

Dray, a junior left-handed pitcher, has posted a 1.04 ERA on the season, and his 26 relief appearances rank third in the MVC. The reliable setup man has 23 strikeouts in 26 innings of work and has held opponents to a .159 batting average. His 11 relief appearances in conference games is tied for second most in the Valley.
