    Ignited by a 12-2 run late in the first half, Illinois State rolled to a 43-32 halftime lead over host Southern Illinois and coasted to a 88-74 victory over the Salukis in Missouri Valley Conference play Sunday afternoon.

    The visiting Redbirds, now 11-2 overall and 3-1 in league play, connected on 25 of 29 free throws in recording the win in the 116th game played between the two teams.

    Tarise Bryson led Illinois State's scoring with 35 points, including a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc and 14 of 17 at the free throw line. Shawn Jeppson had 20 for the Redbirds.

    In dropping their third game in a row, SIU received a career-best 18-point performance from senior Abel Schrader, but were unable to get any closer than four points at 54-50 in the second half.

    The Salukis were also unable to match Illinois State's field goal shooting for the game as they hit only .37 percent of their attempts (23-of-62)while the Redbirds were connecting on 24 of 48 tries for .58 percent.

    SIU's next game is at Wichita State Wednesday night while the Redbirds call on Drake the same night.
