    Series versus Loyola
Loyola won the only two previous meetings between the schools, with both games occurring in the same year. The Salukis lost by 37 points on Jan. 27, 1981. That road loss was part of an 18-game losing streak to end the season and the coaching tenure of Joe Gottfried. On Dec. 18, 1981, the Salukis lost by one point at the Chicagoland Classic tournament under the direction of first-year head coach Allen Van Winkle.

    Salukis struggling on the road
The Salukis are 0-6 on the road this season. In those six games the team has shot .423 from the field and .276 from 3-point, while scoring 65.2 points per game. Conversely, at home SIU shoots .518 from the field, .338 from 3-point and scores 71.7 points per game. Last year, the Salukis were 1-8 in MVC road games, but snapped a 15-game conference road losing streak by beating Drake in the regular-season finale, 66-63.

Desmar Jackson closing on 1,600 points
G Desmar Jackson (6-5, 180, Sr.) has 1,579 career points (804 at Wyoming, 775 at Southern Illinois) and has scored more points in his college career than any active player in the league. A member of the seven-man MVC Preseason Team, he is the league's second-leading scorer and ranks 27th in the nation (20.5 ppg).

    Jackson in elite company
Jackson is one of only 10 players in the nation to average more than 20 points per game and shoot 49 percent or better from the field. He is a star on both ends of the court, ranking second in the MVC with 2.20 steals per game, which ranks him No. 35 nationally.

    Desmar Jackson's 20+ point games
Desmar Jackson has already scored 20+ points seven times this season, matching the amount of times he did it last season. If he can reach the 20-point plateau once more, he'll be the first Saluki to do so eight times in a season since Kent Williams had 11 20-point games in the 2001-02 campaign.

As Jalen Pendleton goes, so goes SIU
In the four games Southern has won, G Jalen Pendleton (6-2, 205, So.) is the team's top scorer at 19.3 points per game while shooting 61 percent from the field. In the 11 losses, however, he averages just 9.4 points on 46 percent shooting.
