ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Southern Illinois junior guard Desmar Jackson was named the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Monday.

The Warren, Ohio-native helped the Salukis to wins over UNI and at Drake last week by averaging 16.5 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 1.5 steals. He led the team with 18 points in the victory over UNI, and added 15 points in the win against the Bulldogs, which snapped a 15-game conference road losing streak for SIU.

Jackson is only the second two-time winner of Newcomer of the Week in school history. Bryan Mullins won the award twice in 2006. Jackson won it earlier this season when he scored 25 points and made the game-winning 3-pointer with 12 seconds left to beat Fresno State.

SIU will play Missouri State on Thursday night at 8:35 p.m. in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in St. Louis. TV Clearances for SIU vs. MSU
