CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University men's and women's basketball teams will host exhibition games at SIU Arena on Saturday. The men play Missouri-St. Louis at 7:05 p.m., while the women face Lindenwood at 2:05 p.m.

UMSL finished with a 17-10 record last year and is a last-minute replacement for Harris-Stowe, which informed SIU on Friday that its team was not certified to play. UMSL was not scheduled to play its first exhibition game until Nov. 9 versus Lake Superior State and are making the trip to Carbondale on 24 hours notice.

The Saluki men will make their season debut for second-year head coach Barry Hinson. SIU returns its top player from last year -- preseason All-Conference guard Desmar Jackson, along with starting guard Anthony Beane and reserves Davante Drinkard, Jalen Pendleton and Colby Long. Nine new players will see their first action in a Saluki uniform.

The Saluki women are coming off a 67-60 exhibition victory over Maryville last week. Mercedes Griffin (10 points, three steals), Rishonda Napier (10 points, four rebounds, three steals) and Dyana Pierre (10 points, 12 rebounds) all scored in double figures for Southern. Preseason All-MVC honoree Cartaesha Macklin was hindered by early foul trouble, scoring nine points in 23 minutes. In 2012, Macklin led the Salukis and was second in the MVC in scoring at 15.0 points per game.

Lindenwood, in its first year as a member of NCAA Division II, will play its first game of the exhibition season. The Lady Lions are coming off a 4-22 record in 2013, including a 1-17 mark in the Mid-American Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

To purchase single-game or season tickets, visit the Saluki Ticket Office at the South entrance to SIU Arena. The ticket office is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may also call 1-877-SALUKIS or purchase online at
