    CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois (0-3) will look to snap a three-game losing streak when it hosts Division II Missouri S&T (2-2) at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday at SIU Arena. The Miners are averaging 100.2 points per game, while allowing 95.8 points. In a loss to Southwest Baptist on Tuesday, they scored 83 second-half points.

    Series versus Missouri S&T
    The Salukis lead the all-time series versus Division II Missouri S&T, 7-0, including a 3-0 mark at home. The last meeting was at a tournament hosted by UAB in 1979. The last time the teams met at SIU Arena was a 102-64 Saluki win in 1973. The average margin of victory in the series is 27 points.

    Since joining the ranks of Division I in the 1967-68 season, the Salukis are 63-11 versus non-Division I teams. In the last 30 years, the only non-Division I losses were to Nebraska-Kerney (1995), Alaska-Anchorage (2005) and Ohio Dominican (2011). Barry Hinson is 8-0 all-time against non-DI schools.

    Salukis off to 0-3 start for second time in three years
    Only twice in the last 50 years have the Salukis started a season 0-3 -- 2011 and 2013. It has happened seven times in the 100-year history of the program. Two teams have started 0-4 (1914, 1963).

    Desmar Jackson surpasses 1,300 career points
    G Desmar Jackson (6-5, 180, Sr.) has 1,335 career points (804 at Wyoming, 531 at Southern Illinois) and has scored more points in his college career than any active player in the league. He is the team's leading scorer (21.3 ppg) for the second-straight season. Jackson was named to the seven-man MVC Preseason Team. He averaged 15.1 points and 5.4 rebounds last year for the Salukis and was named honorable mention All-Conference.

    Jalen Pendleton takes over the "hybrid" power forward spot
    G Jalen Pendleton (6-2, 205, So.) is playing a similar role on this year's team as Jeff Early -- an undersized guard playing the power forward spot. Last year, the 6-foot-1 Early led the nation in rebounding (7.4 rpg) among players 6-foot-1 and under. This season, Pendleton is averaging 9.7 points and 4.7 rebounds -- all off the bench.

    Brotherhood of the Salukis
    Saluki teammates Bronson and Dawson Verhines are the first brother duo to play at SIU since Nikos and Than Topouzis (1998). Other brother duos at SIU during the last half century are Greg and Thad Matta (1986), and Corky and Wayne Abrams (1977).

    Bronson Verhines 3rd in MVC in rebounding
    F Bronson Verhines (6-6, 200, Sr.) ranks third in the MVC in rebounding (8.3 rpg) and has reached double digits in consecutive games. Last year at Rend Lake College he averaged 10 rebounds per game. He helped lead RLC to a 30-3 record and NJCAA Division II national championship in 2013.

    In the first seven minutes of the second half this season, the Salukis have been out-scored a combined 52-22... So far, the number of personal fouls assessed against the Salukis is running slightly ahead of last year (64-54)...Out of 351 Division I teams, SIU ranks 304th in free throw shooting (.615) and 317th in 3-point shooting (.250).
