CHICAGO, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's basketball team returns to action on Saturday for its sixth game in 11 days. The Salukis will play at Chicago State. SIU is 10-0 all-time against the Cougars.

Men's Basketball picks up win over Chicago State, 73-57
Diamond Taylor scored a career-high 19 points and led four players in double figures as Southern Illinois beat Chicago State, 73-57, on Friday night.
Series versus Chicago State
The Salukis are 10-0 all-time against Chicago State. This is the third of a four-game series, with one more game to be played in Carbondale. SIU is 3-0 at Chicago State, including a 75-61 win over the Cougars in 2010.
Salukis versus the WAC
Including the 10 wins over Chicago State, SIU is 20-12 against current members of the Western Athletic Conference. The other WAC schools the Salukis have played are New Mexico State (7-11), Seattle (0-1) and UMKC (3-0).
Desmar Jackson surpasses 1,400 career points
G Desmar Jackson (6-5, 180, Sr.) has 1,417 career points (804 at Wyoming, 613 at Southern Illinois) and has scored more points in his college career than any active player in the league. He is the league's third-leading scorer (20.9 ppg). Jackson was named to the seven-man MVC Preseason Team. He averaged 15.1 points and 5.4 rebounds last year for the Salukis and was named honorable mention All-Conference.
Anthony Beane busts out of slump
G Anthony Beane (6-2, 180, So.) began the season with a 9-for-31 shooting slump, including 0-for-5 from 3-point range. He busted out against Missouri S&T by making 8-of-10 shots, including his only 3-point try. Then, in the first two games of the Gulf Coast Showcase in Florida, he was 12-for-21 combined from the field, including 7-of-10 from 3-point. Beane was a member of the MVC's All-Freshman team last year. He originally signed with Illinois State, but came with his father, assistant coach Anthony Beane, to Southern instead.

The Salukis went 1-2 in Florida at the Gulf Coast Showcase. Desmar Jackson and Anthony Beane combined for 52 percent of the team's scoring. F Sean O'Brien (6-6, 205, Fr.) was averaging 3.0 points heading into the tournament, but averaged 9.3 points and 6.7 rebounds in Florida. Also breaking out of a slump was C Bola Olaniyan (6-7, 225, Fr.), who was 4-of-5 shooting from the field and averaged 5.3 rebounds.
Jalen Pendleton takes over the "hybrid" power forward spot
G Jalen Pendleton (6-2, 205, So.) is playing a similar role on this year's team as Jeff Early -- an undersized guard playing the power forward spot. Last year, the 6-foot-1 Early led the nation in rebounding (7.4 rpg) among players 6-foot-1 and under. This season, Pendleton is averaging 11.4 points and ranks sixth in the MVC in offensive rebounding (2.3).
Odds and ends
The Salukis are playing the final game of a six-game stretch in 11 days. They flew straight from Florida to Chicago for Saturday's game...Forward Bronson Verhines suffered an ankle sprain on Nov. 21 and is hopeful to return by the Dec. 7 game vs. Western Kentucky...G Hunter Gibson indicated he will transfer at the semester break...Out of 351 Division I teams, SIU ranks 318th in 3-point shooting (.275) and Chicago State is 292nd (.294).

Two times in Desmar Jackson's career he has scored 20+ points in three-straight games. and match a personal best he set last season. He did it Nov. 19-25, 2013 this season, and from Jan. 9-15, 2013 last year. Prior to that, the last Saluki to score 20+ in three consecutive games was Kent Williams, who posted four-straight in Nov./Dec. of 2001 versus Illinois (23), UIC (21), Indiana (22) and George Mason (26).
