GREEN BAY, Wis. - Southern Illinois men's basketball head coach Barry Hinson was asked about reports that both Creighton and Evansville are considering leaving the Missouri Valley Conference.

"It's a basketball conference," he said of the MVC, shortly after his team won at Green Bay on Saturday night. "You wanna leave, there will be people lining up to get in our conference. That's how good it is. And I don't think anybody's leaving our conference, because they know how damn good it is."

Hinson has been an ardent supporter of the MVC, dating back to his nine-year head coaching stint at Missouri State.

"It's one of the best basketball conferences in the country -- a tradition-rich basketball conference," said Hinson, who is 5-2 in his first season at SIU. "When you go on the road in the Missouri Valley Conference, night-in and night-out, seven out of the 10 schools, those games are sold out. It's a basketball league."
