Men's Basketball runs away with 71-55 win over SIUE
Southern Illinois improved to 5-0 all-time against its sister school, SIUE, with a 71-55 victory in a rare road trip to the Edwardsville branch of the university system.
Desmar Jackson surpasses 1,500 career points
G Desmar Jackson (6-5, 180, Sr.) has 1,501 career points (804 at Wyoming, 697 at Southern Illinois) and has scored more points in his college career than any active player in the league. He is the league's second-leading scorer and ranks 26th in the nation (20.9 ppg) and was named to the seven-man MVC Preseason Team.
Jackson not just a scorer
Jackson is a star on both ends of the court. He ranks second in the MVC with 2.3 steals per game. Nationally, he is one of only five players to rank in the top 30 in both scoring (26th) and steals (30th).
Series versus SIUE
The Salukis are 5-0 all-time against SIUE. This will mark the third-straight year the teams have met. Two years ago, five players scored in double figures to lead SIU to an 80-57 home victory. Last year, the Salukis won at Edwardsville, 71-55. With 6:16 remaining in the contest, play was stopped due to a scuffle under the SIUE basket. Officials spent 20 minutes reviewing the video and ejected three players on the floor for committing flagrant fouls, plus four Edwardsville players who left the bench to join the melee.
Hinson 5-4 versus the OVC
Barry Hinson holds a 5-4 record all-time against current members of the Ohio Valley Conference. He's 2-0 vs. Belmont, 1-2 vs. SEMO, 1-0 vs. SIUE, 1-0 vs. Tennessee Tech, 0-1 vs. Austin Peay and 0-1 vs. Murray State.
Jalen Pendleton a force off the bench at "hybrid" power forward spot
G Jalen Pendleton (6-2, 205, So.) is playing a similar role on this year's team as Jeff Early -- an undersized guard playing the power forward spot. Last year, the 6-foot-1 Early led the nation in rebounding (7.4 rpg) among players 6-foot-1 and under. This season, Pendleton is the team's third-leading scorer (11.5 ppg) and ranks seventh in field goal percentage (.529).
Desmar Jackson's 20+ point games
Desmar Jackson has already scored 20+ points six times this season, after reaching that mark seven times last year. If he can hit the 20-point plateau a total of eight times this season, he'll be the first Saluki to do so since Kent Williams had 11 20-point games in the 2001-02 season.

Salukis raise the non-conference Strength of Schedule
