CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University men's basketball head coach Barry Hinson returned to practice today and extended his appreciation for the support he's received during a difficult time for his family. His son-in-law, Niles Thomason, passed away suddenly on Christmas morning.

"On behalf of Niles' parents, Johnny and Theresa Thomason, his sister Corrie, my daughter Tiffany, and my wife Angie, I want to express our gratitude for the outpouring of support we've received from Saluki Nation," Hinson said. "Your many letters, emails, text messages, as well as your thoughts and prayers, have helped sustain us."

A memorial service for Thomason was held Monday in Tulsa, Okla. Memorial donations are the preferred form of remembrance, according to the family, and may be made to the trust account for the couple's son, Carter. Checks for Carter's trust fund can be made to Fidelity Investments FBO Carter Hinson Thomason, c/o Steve Streeter, 4111 S. Darlington, Suite 120, Tulsa, OK 74135.

Hinson also wished to thank University President Glenn Poshard, Chancellor Rita Cheng, and Director of Athletics Mario Moccia for their support, as well as Greg Cook, for providing transportation for the family.
