Saluki Football In-Game Notes vs. Eastern Illinois

Pre-game Notes
• SIU Captains: 8, 31, 75, 90
• Southern Illinois lost the toss. Will receive and defend the North goal.
• SIU is making its seventh-straight playoff appearance, which is the second longest active streak in the nation.

First Quarter
• Senior right tackle Shawn Smith made his 50th-consecutive start and senior linebacker Brandin Jordan made his 46th career start.
Deji Karim fumbled on his second carry of the game. It was his first career fumble and it came on his 310th touch as a Saluki.
• The Panthers scored first on Saturday, marking just the third time all season that the Salukis were not the first to score.
• Karim scored his 17th rushing touchdown of the season at 7:33.

Second Quarter
Paul McIntosh scored his sixth rushing touchdown of the season at 13:28.
Lance Caldwell forced a fumble at 13:22 and Korey Lindsey recovered it at the EIU 31. It was Caldwell's second career forced fumble and the first fumble recovery in Lindsey's career.
Chris Arthurs recorded his first sack of the season and it came on the EIU one-yard line.
Kyle Dougherty's field goal at 7:24 was his 17th of the season and the 47th of his career.
Kyle Russo scored his first career touchdown and SIU's fifth defensive touchdown with a 28-yard return on a fumble after a Kyle Walker sack. It was Walkers eighth and a half sack on the year and his first forced fumble.
• McIntosh finished the first half with 103 yards rushing, becoming just the second Saluki quarterback to rush for over 100-yards twice in a career. He's done so on consecutive weeks. He became the first player to rush for over 100 yards against the Panther defense all year.

Third Quarter
Lance Caldwell intercepted his fifth pass of the season on EIU's first drive of the second half.
Paul McIntosh threw his first career touchdown pass to John Goode at 11:29. It was Goode's fourth TD reception on the year.
Brandin Jordan's fifth tackle of the game moved him into fifth place for the most tackles in SIU history. He passed Alexis Moreland on the Saluki record list.
Deji Karim caught the first touchdown pass of his career at 6:37. It was his 28th career touchdown, which ties Karlton Carpenter for the sixth-most in school history.
• Karim passed Andre Herrera's 1,588 rushing yards for the third most in a season in SIU history. He finished the third quarter with 1,596 yards rushing this season.
Kyle Dougherty's 45-yard field goal at 1:14 was his 18th of the season, which ties Ron Miller's record for the most in a single-season.

Fourth Quarter
Deji Karim's 23rd carry of the game put him over 100-yards rushing. It was his ninth 100-yard rushing game of the season. The run went for 58 yards and a touchdown, his second rushing and third overall in the game.
Michael Thornton recovered SIU's fifth fumble of the game, which is the second most in school history.
