Saluki Football running back Daquan Isom was named the Missouri Valley Football Conference Newcomer of the Week, the league announced Sunday. Isom had 275 all-purpose yards and three total touchdowns in SIU's 49-28 loss at Northern Iowa on Saturday.
The Southern Illinois football team's season ended on Saturday afternoon with a 49-28 loss at No. 15 Northern Iowa. SIU's season ends at 3-8, 2-6 MVFC, while Northern Iowa (7-4, 5-3 MVFC) assured itself a playoff berth by winning its fifth-straight game to close the year.
Southern Illinois will play its season finale on Saturday, Nov. 21, against Northern Iowa in the UNI-Dome. SIU has won two of the last three meetings against UNI in Cedar Falls.
Saluki Football quarterback Mark Iannotti was one of six players added to the STATS FCS Offensive Player of the Year Watch List on Tuesday morning. Iannotti is one of 25 finalists for the award, which is given to the top offensive player in the nation. MyCole Pruitt was a finalist for the award last season.
SIU and UNI will face off at the UNI-Dome at 4 p.m. CT on Nov. 21. The Salukis are 5-2 against Northern Iowa under head coach Dale Lennon, which includes road wins in 2009 and 2013.
