CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University football team will play at Miami University on Saturday, Sept. 8, the schools announced on Tuesday. The game will mark the first meeting between the Football Championship Subdivision Salukis and the Football Bowl Subdivision Redhawks.

Both schools originally had 2012 non-conference dates scheduled versus Missouri, but after the Tigers moved to the Southeastern Conference, those games were in conflict with the SEC schedule. Southern Illinois competes in the Missouri Valley Football Conference, while Miami is a member of the Mid-American Conference.

The game will be played at Yager Stadium in Oxford, Ohio with a kickoff time to be determined. Miami opens its season at Ohio State on Sept. 1, while the Salukis begin their 2012 campaign at Eastern Illinois on Aug. 30.

The Salukis are coming off a 4-7 season and return two quarterbacks with starting experience in Kory Faulkner and Paul McIntosh. The Redhawks were 4-8 last season and return senior quarterback Zac Dysert, who passed for 3,513 yards and 23 touchdowns in 2011.

SIU is 19-69-3 all-time against current members of the MAC. The most recent meeting with a MAC school was in 2007, when Southern beat Northern Illinois, 34-31.
