    PHILDELPHIA, Pa. (Sports Network) - The Southern Illinois football team has been ranked No. 19 in the preseason Sports Network/ FCS top 25 poll that was released Monday.

    SIU, who was ranked in 99-straight top 25 polls from Sept. 8, 2003 through Oct. 18, 2010, climbed back into the national rankings after finishing outside of the top 25 for the final five polling periods in 2010.

    This is the eighth-straight season that Southern has entered a year ranked in the preseason poll.

    Three Missouri Valley Football Conference schools were ranked in the top 25 and all nine league schools received votes. Northern Iowa is the top-rated MVFC school, ranked at No. 7, with North Dakota State close behind at No. 11.

    Defending national champion Eastern Washington was installed as a prohibitive No. 1 by voters in The Sports Network/ FCS Preseason top 25. They gained 90 of the 140 first-place votes and 3,377 points in the poll.

    During the regular season, the top 25 will be released every Monday afternoon, except for the final weekend of the regular season, when it will be released Sunday morning, Nov. 20, due to its use as an official tool by the NCAA Division I Football Committee in selecting the 20-team playoff field. The Sports Network and will release a final top 25 following the FCS championship game, which will be held Jan. 7 at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
