    CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois' opens its season on Aug. 28 against Taylor University at 7 p.m. in Saluki Stadium. Promotions for the game include the (618) Salukis program for Carbondale and Murphysboro, Saluki Sprint, 4 for $40 and Youth Football Night.

    The (618) Salukis Program allows fans from local communities to purchase tickets in advance of game day for just $6.18 with a proof of residence. The Taylor game is Carbondale and Murphysoboro Night, and fans from both towns can purchase the discounted tickets. Fans can pick up their tickets for the (618) Salukis promotion now at the SIU ticket office or the Old National Bank at 1709 Walnut St. in Murphysboro.

    All fans can take advantage of this year's 4 for $40 promotion. For only $40 before game day, fans receive four tickets, four drinks and four food items. The Taylor game is also Youth Football night. Members of youth football teams can get into the game for free, and family members can purchase discounted tickets.     The Saluki Sprint is a new tradition in which Saluki students get to run the field before the game and be welcomed by the community.

    To get ready for the season, come out to Fan Fest on Thursday, Aug. 21, at 6:30 p.m. and meet the team. In addition, fans will receive free ice cream from Prairie Farms, free posters and schedule cards. The Saluki Shakers and cheerleaders will also be in attendance, and bounce houses will be set up.

    After the game, the Salukis will hold a fireworks display, weather permitting.
