    - Steve Strotheris 13 yards away from becoming the 33rd person in SIU history to rush for 1,000 yards in a career.

    - Jayson DiManche has 26.0 tackles for loss in his career, three away from tying Bart Scottfor ninth on the school's all-time list.

    - Mika'il McCall has scored five of SIU's six touchdowns in its first two games. The last running back to account for five touchdowns in the first two games of the season was Muhammad Abdulqaadirin 2003.

    - Southern outgained its FBS opponent for the second year in a row last week. SIU outgained Ole Miss by 105 yards in 2011 and outgained Miami (OH) by 13 yards last Saturday.

    - Mika'il McCall has scored five of SIU's six touchdowns in its first two games. The last running back to account for five touchdowns in the first two games of the season was Muhammad Abdulqaadirin 2003.

    - McCall leads the Missouri Valley Football Conference in scoring, averaging 15.0 points per game. Illinois State's Darrelynn Dunn has also scored five touchdowns. No other player in the conference has scored more than three touchdowns.

    - Lewis' 62.5 receiving yards per game average is tied for sixth-best in the conference.

    - MyCole Pruittled the team with six receptions for 66 yards against Miami (OH). Pruitt has recorded at least four receptions in seven of the last eight games and eight of the last 10, dating back to last season.

    - Pruitt has at least 60 yards receiving in six of the last eight games, dating back to last season.

    - Southern has outrushed its opponent in nine of its last 13 games.

    - Kory Faulknerattempted a career high 58 passes against Eastern Illinois. That is two shy of the school record set by Scott Gabbert, who threw the ball 60 times in a game against Northern Illinois in 1989. He also completed a career-high 31 passes, fourth most in school history.

    - Kory Faulknerthrew for 293 yards in the season opener, the second highest total of his career. He threw for 334 yards against Illinois State on Oct. 29, 2011.

    - Mika'il McCall's 74-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter of the Eastern Illinois game matched the longest play from scrimmage SIU had in 2011, when Steve Strother had a 74-yard run at Ole Miss. The touchdown pass to McCall was also the longest pass of Kory Faulkner'scareer.

    - Kory Faulkneris 27 yards away from 2,000 career passing yards.

    - Last year against SEMO, Steve Strotherrushed for 81 yards on just nine carries, including a 62-yard touchdown run on the game's second play from scrimmage.

    - Southern Illinois has only allowed one 100-yard rusher in the last seven games, dating back to last season. Shakir Bell rushed for 137 yards in SIU's 35-28 win over the Sycamores in 2011. Since the start of the 2011 season, SIU has only allowed three 100-yard rushers in the last 13 games.

    - SIU's five sacks against Eastern Illinois were the most sacks in a game for SIU since it sacked Western Illinois five times in both 2010 and 2011. In the Lennon era, Southern has now recorded at least five sacks in five games.

    - The Saluki defense has at least one sack in 17 consecutive games and 30 of the last 31 games.

    - Carlton Lewis recorded a career-high 11 tackles and 2.0 tackles for loss against Miami (OH). SIU hadn't had a player record 11 tackles in a single game since Joe Okonrecorded 13 against South Dakota State in 2010.

    - Jayson DiManche recorded 2.0 tackles for loss against Eastern Illinois and 1.0 against Miami (OH), giving him 26.0 career tackles for loss, ranking him 11th in school history. He is only 3.0 TFLs away from tying Bart Scottfor the ninth-most career TFLs in school history with 29.0.

    - Eze Obioraearned National Defensive Lineman of the Week honors from the College Football Coaches Association after his Week 1 performance. Obiora picked up the honor after posting three sacks against Eastern Illinois.

    - Obiora's three sacks against Eastern Illinois were the most by an SIU player since Jayson DiMancherecorded three sacks against Western Illinois in 2010.

    - Obiora recorded a half sack against Miami (OH), giving him 3.5 for the season. No other player in the conference has more than 2.0 sacks this season.

    - Obiora's 3.5 tackles for loss this season tie him for second in the conference in TFLs.

    - Bryan Presumestarted the first game of his career against Eastern Illinois and responded with a career-high 10 tackles and two forced fumbles.

    - Presume needs just one more forced fumble to join 12 others in SIU history who have recorded three forced fumbles in a season. Ron Geels holds the school record with six forced in 1977. No one else has forced more than four.

    - Presume is the only player in the conference with more than one forced fumble this season.

    - Presume is 10th in the conference in tackles and Lewis is tied for 11th.

    - SIU recovered four fumbles against Eastern Illinois. SIU last recovered four fumbles in a game was in 2008 against Northern Iowa.

    - All five of Southern Illinois' forced turnovers have been fumble recoveries.

    - Six starters return on the defensive side of the ball. Preseason All-Conference selections Kenneth Boatright (DE) and Kayon Swanson(DT) lead the group.

    - After giving up eight explosive plays to the EIU offense (20 or more yards), the Saluki defense only surrendered one such play against Miami. SIU held Miami to 186 fewer yards than EIU the previous week.

    - Steve Strotheris a preseason All-Conference selection after averaging 27.14 yards per kick return in his first three seasons with SIU. Eastern only kicked deep to Strother twice in seven kicks and Miami (OH) tried two squib kicks.

    - Strother is currently second in school history in kick return average, averaging 25.7 yards per return. Larry Warneraveraged 26.93 yards per return in 2008 and 09. SIU's last kick return for a touchdown was Strother at home against SEMO in 2010.

    - Austin Pucylowskienters his third year as the SIU punter. Pucylowski averaged 45.0 yards on 11 punts in the first two weeks. Only one of the punts has been returned and three were pinned inside the 20.

    - Only 17 of Pucylowski's 65 punts since 2011 have been returned.

    - Southern leads the Missouri Valley Football Conference and is eighth nationally in net punting (42.1).

    - Jackson MacLachlan has been listed as the starting kicker on the depth chart by head coach Dale Lennon, but Lennon said the final call will be a game-time decision.

    - Chris Adamsonly had nine touchbacks in 55 kickoffs last year, but he already has three in his first seven kickoffs in 2012. So far, he's improved his kickoff average by about two yards per kick.

    - SIU has won its home opener in each of Saluki Stadium's first two seasons.

    - SIU has won its home opener 10 years in a row. Only two of those games have been decided by fewer than 39 points. In last year's home opener, SIU needed a go-ahead field goal with less than a minute remaining to beat Missouri State, 20-18.

    - After going 2-3 at home last season, SIU is 6-5 in two seasons at Saluki Stadium.

    - Southeast Missouri State is 1-1 after picking up a win against Mars Hill College last week. The Redhawks lost to Central Michigan in the season opener, 38-27.

    - SEMO leads the Ohio Valley Conference in rushing, averging 238.0 yards per game. The Redhawks piled up 288 yards on 55 carries against Mars Hill last week. The run game was also effective against FBS foe Central Michigan. SEMO rushed for 188 yards and averaged 4.5 yards per rush.

    - Southeast Missouri State has attempted just 39 passes in the first two games. By comparison, Southern Illinois attempted 60 passes in Week 1 at Eastern Illinois and has attempted 94 passes in the two games combined.

    - Last year, SIU held the Redhawks to 117 yards on 31 carries in SIU's 38-10 win. SEMO's 261 total yards were the fewest of any Saluki opponent in 2011. SIU ran for 240 yards on 46 carries and had 494 yards of total offense in the game.

    - Levi Terrell leads the ground game for the Redhawks, averaging 103.0 yards per game on the ground and 5.6 yards per rush. Renard Celestin is averaging 54 yards per game and 9.8 yards per carry after last week against Mars Hill, when he rushed nine times for 93 yards.

    - Scott Lathrop leads the passing attach, averaging 117 yards per game through the air. Lathrop hasn't thrown an interception yet this season.

    - The Salukis didn't receive any first-place votes in the preseason MVFC poll for the first time since 2006. 2012 marks on the second time in the last nine seasons that SIU did not receive a first place vote.

    - Southern Illinois was picked to finish seventh in the MVFC preseason poll. Since 2003, SIU has been picked to finish fifth or worse two times. Each of the previous two times (2003, 08), SIU went on to win a share of the MVFC title.

    - In 2011, SIU finished tied for seventh in the MVFC. Lennon has only finished as low as seventh two toher times. The last time Lennon finished seventh, in 2002 with North Dakota, he guided his team to a national runner-up season the following year.

    - SIU won the coin toss against Miami (OH). The Salukis had lost seven consecutive coin tosses before last week.

    - Head coach Dale Lennonneeds one win to reach 30 wins at SIU to tie Dick Towers for fifth place on the all-time wins chart.

    - Southern Illinois has won five of the last six meetings against SEMO. The closest of those five wins was an 18-point win in 2009.

    - Dating back to 1983, Southern has won 14 of the last 20 meetings between the schools.
