    ST. LOUIS – SIU linebacker Tyler Williamson has been named to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team, the MVFC announced Tuesday.

    The sophomore had his hand in many big plays for the Salukis this season, leading the conference with three forced fumbles. He also recovered two fumbles, one of them for a touchdown against Youngstown State. In his first season with Southern Illinois after transferring from Heartland (Kan.) Community College, Williamson recorded 32 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. In addition, he intercepted a pass at Illinois State and blocked a field goal attempt at North Dakota State.

    Williamson was named MVFC Defensive Player of the Week on Oct. 8 for his performance against Illinois State.
