    ST. LOUIS – SIU junior punter Austin Pucylowski has been selected to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Academic first team, the MVFC announced Monday. In addition, sophomore offensive lineman Corey Boemer, senior linebacker Joe Okon and senior long snapper Jason Stegman each earned second-team honors.

    Pucylowski averaged 40.2 yards per punt in 2012 and pinned 23 of his 71 punts inside the 20-yard line with only seven touchbacks. He had a net punting average of 36.7, which ranked 20th in the nation. He is majoring in biological sciences, has a 4.0 GPA and plans to enroll in medical school following graduation. Pucylowski was a second-team Academic All-Conference selection in 2011. Earlier this week, he was named to the All-MVFC second team.

    Boemer is second on the depth chart at right guard and played in 10 games in 2012. He is also majoring in biological scienes with a 3.941 GPA. He was named to the MVFC Academic Honor Roll in 2010 and earned the MVFC’s Commissioner’s Academic Excellence Award in 2011.

    Okon was a three-year starter and a captain on the 2012 squad. He started all 11 games at inside linebacker and was second on the team with 66 tackles, including a season-best 10 at No. 1 North Dakota State. He had 2.0 tackles for loss along with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery. Okon was also a second-team Academic All-Conference selection in 2011. He is majoring in psychology with a 3.352 GPA and plans to enroll in graduate school following graduation.

    Stegman has been SIU’s starting long snapper for the last three seasons. Earlier this season he was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. He was a 2011 Academic All-Conference Honorable Mention. Stegman is majoring in electrical engineering with a 3.727 GPA.
