ST. LOUIS – Southern Illinois running back Malcolm Agnew and kicker Thomas Kinney were both selected to the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer team, the conference announced Tuesday. The 22-man team features 11 offensive/special teams players and 11 defensive players.

Agnew, a junior who transferred from Oregon State, led the Salukis and ranked seventh in the conference with 888 rushing yards. He averaged 4.9 yards per carry and rushed for six touchdowns. In addition, Agnew caught 15 passes for 137 yards and a touchdown. After missing the season opener with an injury, he was SIU’s leading rusher in 10 of the final 11 games of the season.

Kinney, also a junior who transferred from Winona State, converted 18 of 24 field goal attempts on the year. His 18 field goals tied for the second-highest single-season total in school history. Kinney hit a 52-yard field goal against Western Illinois, which tied for the second-longest by an FCS kicker in 2013. He also converted 40 of 41 PATs to give him 94 points, the sixth-highest single-season total by a Saluki.

Youngstown State running back Martin Ruiz was named the MVFC Newcomer of the Year and Freshman of the Year.
