SIU defensive end Ken Boatright has been selected to the American Football Coaches’ FCS All-America Team, the AFCA announced Tuesday. Boatright is one of four defensive linemen to receive this year’s honor. The AFCA All-America Team is comprised of 11 offensive players, 11 defensive players and three special teams players.

The senior was a force on the Salukis’ dominant defensive line in 2012. He finished third in the Missouri Valley Football Conference with 13.5 tackles for loss and tied for seventh in the conference with 5.5 sacks. In addition he recorded 62 tackles and blocked a punt, which he recovered for a touchdown.

A two-year starter, Boatright was also a team captain this season. He was named to the Valley’s All-Conference first team last week.

This marks the second year in a row and the fourth time in the last five seasons that a Saluki has been an AFCA All-American. Center Bryan Boemer earned the honor in 2011, cornerback Korey Lindsey earned it in 2009 and guard Aaron Lockood did the same in 2008.
