CARBONDALE, Ill. – Southern Illinois junior tight end MyCole Pruitt was named the nation’s top FCS tight end by multiple organizations on Wednesday. Pruitt has been named a first-team All-American by The Sports Network and by the Associated Press, both organizations announced Wednesday. These are the second and third organizations to honor Pruitt as a first-team All-American following the 2013 season. In addition, the College Football Performance Awards (CFPA) have announced that he is the winner of the 2013 CFPA Tight End Award, which is awarded annually to the nation’s top tight end at the FCS level.

Pruitt is the second Saluki to earn a national postseason award from the CFPA. In 2010, Korey Lindsey won the 2010 CFPA Elite Defensive Back Award.

In 10 games this season, Pruitt led all tight ends in receptions per game with 4.8 and was third in the FCS in total tight end receptions. He finished the regular season with 601 receiving yards, second most among FCS tight ends. During the 2013 season, he became SIU’s all-time leader in career receptions (140) and receiving yards (1,740) by a tight end.

This marks the sixth year in a row that the Salukis have had a first-team All-American. Pruitt is the ninth first-team All-American selection in Dale Lennon’s six years as head coach at SIU.

Earlier this month, Pruitt was also named to the FCS ADA All-America team and was a first-team All-Missouri Valley Conference selection.
