The Southern Illinois men's golf team posted its best round of the spring on Tuesday, moving up two spots to finish fifth out of 12 teams in the final standings of the Grover Page Classic in Jackson, Tenn.

The Salukis shot an even-par 288 in today's final round, an eight-stroke improvement over round two and 16 strokes ahead of their first-round score at the 6,783-yard Jackson Country Club.

"We're just getting used to playing outside and we put together some very good rounds today," said head coach Leroy Newton. "I'm not surprised we played well, but I didn't expect us to shoot 288. I was very pleased with that score."

Leading the way was Caleb Harms, who tied for 11th place out of 78 golfers at 2-over par for the tournament. He shot a team-best 71 today and had one eagle and 12 birdies during the two-day competition. Both Drew Novara and Wade Thompson tied for 15th place at 4-over par. They carded even-par rounds of 72 today. Novara led all golfers with 38 pars.

"All the kids are capable of shooting par," Newton said. "When we have four good scores, we're going to do well in tournaments. We're going to keep getting better with practice at home on the hitting range."
