ST. LOUIS - Jake Erickson was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. Erickson won the Big Blue Invitational on Tuesday for his third career tournament win.

Erickson was named MVC Golfer of the Week for the fifth time in his career, two more than any golfer in school history. He earned the honor for the second time this season and for the second consecutive tournament after earning the nod two weeks ago after the ASU Red Wolves Intercollegiate.

Erickson's win at the Big Blue Intercollegiate was the third win of his career, the most by any golfer in school history. At the Big Blue Intercollegiate, Erickson led the tournament in birdies with 17. He posted a birdie and an eagle in his final two holes to force a tiebreaker, which he earned by virtue of a lower final-round score.

The Springfield, Ill., native posted two rounds in the 60s at the tournament, marking eight for his career, which is tied for third in school history. He posted a 67 in the first round, tying a career high and the second-best first-round score in school history. His three-round total of 206 was the third-best round in school history.

Erickson led the Salukis to a team win at the tournament and some of the best team scores in school history. Southern's team score of 847 was the best 54-hole team score in school history on a par 72 course, and all three rounds were among the top-20 rounds in school history.

The Salukis are back in action on April 29-30 for the MVC Championships, which the Salukis are hosting at Dalhousie Golf Club in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
