ST. LOUIS - Following the team's first individual title in two years, Southern Illinois University men's golfer Andrew Rauscher was named Missouri Valley Conference Golfer of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.

The announcement marks the second time this season that Rauscher has earned the Valley's weekly honor. He was also named MVC Golfer of the Week on Sept. 27.

The River Falls, Wisc. native picks up the award after earning medalist honors this week at the Buffalo Rock / Southern Showdown at Bent Brook Golf Course in Birmingham, Ala. The win is the first individual title for the Salukis since Oct., 2004.

Rauscher, a transfer from Indian Hills Community College, beat out 95 competitors to finish first at the Buffalo Rock / Southern Showdown with a 12- under-par 201.

With the win, Rauscher also moves back atop the Valley in scoring with a 70.13 average.

He carded all three rounds in the 60s en route to the win, setting 36- and 54-hole SIU records along the way. His record-setting performance also led SIU to a record-setting performance of its own as the team's score of 13-under-par 839 set a 54-hole team record.

The Buffalo Rock / Southern Showdown was the final tournament of the fall season for SIU. The Salukis return to action Feb. 25-26 at the Pizza Hut / BellSouth Classic at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Philadelphia, Miss.
