CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois men's golf head coach Leroy Newton announced the signing of Steve Souchek from John A. Logan College to a national letter of intent for the 2013-14 season. Souchek was an All-American at John A. Logan last year.

"Steve is a very good player who can come in and contribute immediately," Newton said. "He's a very consistent player and has a steady game. He consistently scores well and will be a great contributor for our team."

Souchek led Logan to two tournament wins this fall and two more second-place finishes. In a tournament against the Salukis this fall, Souchek finished tied for fifth overall at the Skyhawk Fall Classic, leading John A. Logan to a tie for first place in the tournament after regulation holes. Souchek posted a 75.2 stroke average as a freshman and currently has a 73.4 stroke average this season.

Souchek played two seasons at John A. Logan and will have two years of eligibility remaining when he starts competing for the Salukis in the fall of 2013.
