DES MOINES, Iowa-- Jorge Cavero and Badr Cherradi highlighted the singles competition for Southern Illinois University men's tennis as the Salukis closed out singles play on the second day of the MVC Individual Tournament.

Senior Badr Cherradi advanced from day one of the competition to face Arthur Romanet of Bradley. Cherradi beat his opponent decisively 6-2, 6-1 to take third place in flight one of singles competition.

Returning to the court after a season ending injury, Jorge Cavero battled Ryan Norman of Creighton in flight three singles play. Cavero was able to hold off Norman to win third place in his flight, 4-6, 6-3, 10-4. "I am really proud of Jorge (Cavero) who won his first match since October of 2011," said SIU head coach Dann Nelson. "Also, Badr (Cherradi) played well and was able to win his match in flight No. 1."

The tandem of Brandon Florez and Martijn Admiraal was the only Saluki duo to advance in doubles play Saturday. Flores and Admiraal dropped their first contest in flight one, 3-8, to players from Illinois State but earned a spot in Sunday's semi-finals by default.

"We struggled in doubles today but will advance Brandon Florez and Martijn Admiraal to the semi-finals," said Nelson. "We are looking forward to see what they can do tomorrow."

The final day of the MVC Individual Tournament will begin Sunday morning at 9 a.m.
