Men's Tennis tops SIUE, 5-2

By Tyler Wooten CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois men's tennis team bounced back to .500 Sunday against SIU-Edwardsville, besting the Cougars, 5-2. The Salukis (2-2, 0-0) took the doubles point for the third straight match and won four of six singles matches en route to their victory over the Cougars (1-5, 0-0). Capturing doubles wins were the duos of senior Stanislas Rodier and junior Badr Cherradi (8-0) and junior Orhan Spahic and freshman Szymon Opieczonek (8-4), at Nos. 2 and 3 respectively. Cherradi led the way for the Salukis in singles at the No. 1 spot, winning a marathon match against previously unbeaten Marten Jonsson of SIU-Edwardsville, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6 (10-7). Cherradi's three set tiebreak match clocked in at three hours, 16 minutes. Rounding out Saluki singles wins were Rodier (6-1, 7-6 at No. 2) and juniors Brandon Florez (6-0, 6-2 at No. 3) and Jordan Snyder (8-3 at No. 6). The Salukis return to action Mar. 2 at Marquette to launch a five-match road trip. Singles:
