CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team won its fourth straight match on Saturday afternoon, topping Eastern Illinois 5-2. The Salukis (4-4) took the doubles point and kept rolling in singles play, winning at the top three spots and on court 5.

"Our doubles was excellent today," head coach Dann Nelson said. "We won at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to clinched the doubles point. We kept the momentum into the next three matches through the first set. Eastern then gave a great effort to climb back into the matches at Nos. 2 and 3 singles. Our guys weathered the storm, and Michal and Jorge both won the third set of their match 6-1."

In doubles play, Jonny Rigby and Michal Kianicka came into the day winners of three straight matches, but the Salukis wrapped up the doubles point without needing No. 1 doubles to finish. At No. 2 doubles, Jorge Cavero and Szymon Opieczonek cruised to an 8-4 victory, and newcomer Jeremy Dixon teamed with Filip Aleksic to win at No. 3 doubles, 8-2.

In singles, Aleksic won his fifth straight singles match, topping Rui Silva 6-4, 6-4 at No. 5 singles. SIU also got wins on each of the top three courts. Kianicka and Cavero needed three sets to get wins, but both players cruised to 6-1 wins in the deciding set.

"Filip continues to win matches 5-0. We are starting to expect this every time now from him," Nelson said. "Jeremy Dixon won his first collegiate doubles match in his first try with partner Filip Aleksic. We are all very proud of Jeremy getting his first college win."
