CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team's four-match winning streak was snapped by a tough Cleveland State squad, 4-3, on Saturday afternoon. The Salukis (4-5) split the six singles matches but lost the doubles point to lose by one point to Cleveland State, which has won five of the last six Horizontal League championships.

"We had some really good performances today, just not enough to win the match," head coach Dann Nelson said. "Jonny and Mike played very well at No. 1 doubles. Jonny and Jorge also played very smart matches and won in straight sets. Rafael outlasted his opponent and took the match 10-8 in the super tiebreak. Unfortunately, the matches we lost were not close and as a result we were not in a position to win this match. We have to refocus our efforts and improve. We have two big matches in Nashville next weekend. I am confident we can do what needs to be done to be able to be in a position to win."

Jonny Rigby continued his roll, winning both singles and doubles. He won his sixth straight singles match, topping Jorg Van Der Vloet in straight sets. In Rigby's six straight singles wins, five of them have been in straight sets. He improved to a Valley-best 7-1 record this spring, all of which have come at No. 1 singles.

In doubles, Rigby teamed with Michal Kianicka won their fourth straight match at No. 1 doubles. The duo topped Ali Shabib and Joe Vanmeter 8-4. However, Southern lost at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to Cleveland State.

Jorge Cavero won his third straight singles match and fourth in his last five. He topped Shabib in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. At No. 6 singles, Rafael Cuadrillero came from behind to beat Matt Ford, 3-6, 7-6(1), 10-8.

Southern's regularly schedule match against Western Illinois tomorrow afternoon has been postponed to a later date. SIU will next play at Belmont and Lipscomb in Nashville, Tenn., next weekend.
