    CARBONDALE, Ill.-- The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team shut down Creighton Friday afternoon topping the Bluejays 7-0.

    "I am really proud of how the guys played today," said SIU head coach Dann Nelson. "They were focused from the beginning and took control of their match from the start."

    The Salukis (12-3, 3-0 MVC) took advantage of their home court not giving Creighton (7-8, 0-3 MVC) any opportunities to gain momentum. SIU held CU pointless, recording their third shutout of the season.

    Southern Illinois was dominant in doubles play as each duo put away their Creighton opponents by a margin of 8-1. Brandon Florez and Martijn Admiraal recorded their ninth consecutive win to improve to 9-1 in their last ten matches.

    The Salukis remained in control during singles competition putting away Creighton with ease.

    Badr Cherradi's hot streak continued as the senior won 6-0, 6-1 for this 12th consecutive win. Martijn Admiraal also took his 12th straight match with his 6-2, 6-3 win.

    With their third conference win, Southern Illinois is now tied for first in the Missouri Valley Conference with nationally ranked Drake.The Bulldogs and SIU will battle tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. in Southern's final home match of the season.

    "We have a lot if confidence now and we will need every bit of it for Drake tomorrow," said Nelson. 

    The Saluki seniors will be recognized before the start of Saturday's match.
