WICHITA, Kan.-- The Southern Illinois University men's tennis team shutout Creighton for the second time this season to advance to the semifinal round of the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Team Championships.

Playing indoors due to rain in the Wichita area, the Salukis were able to remain in control throughout the match ending Creighton's season with a 4-0 victory.

"Creighton came out fired up and really played hard," said SIU head coach Dann Nelson. "We really had to dig in and play tough to get the win."

SIU and Creighton had hard fought doubles matches but Southern was able to come away with the point winning in the No.1 and No. 3 positions.

Brandon Florez and Martijn Admiraal took their set 8-5 while Szymon Opieczonek and Jorge Cavero also took their match by an 8-5 margin.

"We could have been more aggressive in doubles play today but I am glad we were tested," Nelson said.

Three singles matches went unfinished as the remaining three Salukis took their matches from the Jays.

2013 All-Conference selection Jonny Rigby continued his winning ways topping Brandon Lee 6-2, 6-0. Martijn Admiraal was the next SIU finisher putting away his opponent in the No. 6 position 6-1, 6-3. Senior Badr Cherradi capped off the day defeating CU's Elliot Baker 6-1, 6-3.

Southern Illinois moves onto the semi-final round Saturday taking on No. 2 seeded Wichita State at 2 p.m.

"We are going to have to play better than we did last time we met up with Wichita," said Nelson. "We have to focus on winning the doubles point and playing our brand of Saluki tennis to get the win."
