DES MOINES, Iowa--Jonny Rigby and Michal Kianicka have won the 2013 Missouri Valley Conference Individual Doubles Championship. The duo took the title Sunday afternoon on the final day of competition at the Roger Knapp Tennis Center.

This is the first time since 1990 that Southern Illinois has won a MVC doubles title.

Sophomore Jonny Rigby and Freshman Michal Kianicka opened the day in the semi-final round facing Rolando Torrellas and Jakub Eisner of Illinois State. Rigby and Kianicka defeated the Redbird duo 8-5 to advance to the championship match.

Rigby and Kianicka faced Ilija Cuic and Jocelyn Devilliers in the championship match. Rigby and Kianicka's momentum continued as they handily bested the Shocker tandem 8-2 to claim the 2013 doubles title.

Jonny Rigby also contended in the single's championship match falling to No. 1 Alen Salibasic of Drake 7-5 (retired).

The individual championships were the last tournament of the fall season for the Salukis. They will be back in action on Friday, Jan. 17 for a dual match at Oklahoma State.
