CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team is hosting a pair of matches this weekend at the SIU Outdoor Courts. The Salukis will take on Wichita State in MVC action on Friday at 1 p.m. and host Western Illinois in a non-conference tilt on Saturday at 10 a.m.

All SIU tennis matches have free admission. Southern's match with Wichita State will be its third MVC match of the season. SIU is 1-1 in MVC play after topping Bradley last Thursday and dropping a 6-1 decision to Drake on Friday.

The Salukis boast some of the top players in the conference. Jonny Rigby and Michal Kianicka are have the MVC's top doubles record at 10-4--and they've done it all facing the steepest competition at No. 1 doubles. The duo just knocked of Drake's nationally ranked doubles combination of Robin Goodman and Ben Lott last weekend.

In singles, Rigby has played the entire season at No. 1 doubles and posted one of the best records in the conference. The 2013 All-MVC selection has earned MVC Athlete of the Week honors twice this season and leads the team with an 18-10 overall record. He's joined at the top of the singles lineup by Jorge Cavero, who just topped Drake's Lott, who was ranked No. 15 in the ITA Central Region, last weekend. Cavero has tied Rigby for SIU's highest win-total in dual-match play with 11.

Kianicka has been one of the conference's best freshmen. In addition to teaming up with Rigby as SIU's top doubles tandem, Kianicka has posted a 14-win freshman singles campaign and is one singles win away from getting 10 in dual play.

Head coach Dann Nelson is freshly removed from his 100th win as SIU's head coach. In nine years at SIU, Nelson has posted a 100-87 overall record. Combined with two prior stints, Nelson has 137 wins in his career.
