CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's tennis team is the seventh seed in the 2006 State Farm/Missouri Valley Conference Men's Tennis Championship this weekend. The tournament is hosted by Drake in Des Moines, Iowa.

The Salukis (11-9, 2-5) face Drake (21-2, 6-1), the number two seed, at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. The match will be played at the Drake Tennis Center. The Bulldogs edged SIU 4-3 in their last meeting by winning the doubles point and three of the singles matches.

"We are excited to play Drake again," Saluki men's tennis coach Dann Nelson said. "You always want the chance to play someone that barely beat you one more time. They will be ready and we will be ready. We just have to play well and the best team will win."

Sergio Sanchez and Andrei Bubnov led the Salukis in regular season singles wins. Sanchez was 17-5 overall, including a 14 dual match winning streak. Bubnov went 6-1 in conference singles matches playing mostly at the four spot, while his overall singles record was 15-6.
