Kat Martin enters her third season as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Saluki women's basketball in 2015-16.
Martin came to Carbondale from Kishwaukee College in Malta, Ill., where she spent six seasons as the associate head coach for the Kougars women's basketball program. Her primary duties with the Salukis are recruiting, but she will also assist in game planning and player development.
Martin helped coach Kishwaukee players to a combined seven NJCAA All-America honors with eight WBCA/State Farm All-America nods. KC also produced 14 All-Region and 11 All-Conference selections with three conference and region MVPs with Martin on the staff.
KC appeared in the WBCA Top 25 Honor Roll in all six of Martin's seasons with the team ranking in the nation's top five in team GPA in five of those seasons. The Kougars were named Honorable Mention NJCAA Academic Team of the Year in 2010 and 2012. KC players earned a combined 28 Academic All-Conference honors with four Academic All-America selections during Martin's stay.
In addition to her basketball duties, Martin also served six years as Kishwaukee's assistant to the athletic director. She also spent two seasons as an assistant coach for the Kougars volleyball team and two years as the team's director of operations. KC volleyball won the NJCAA DII national championship in 2007 and 2008 with Martin on the staff, and finished fourth and sixth in the nation respectively in 2009 and 2010.
Martin has also been involved in working at basketball camps all over the country since 2006.
Martin played basketball collegiately for two years at Kishwaukee and two years at Trinity International University. She was named Academic All-Conference both seasons at KC while earning NJCAA Academic All-American laurels in 2005. She ranks second in KC history for career rebounds and 12th in career scoring.
At Trinity, Martin earned All-Conference honors in 2006 after setting the program's single-season record for rebounds. She earned Academic All-Conference honors in 2006 and 2007 and was named an NAIA Academic All-American in 2007.
Martin earned her bachelor's degree in sport and wellness management from Trinity in 2007 and her master's degree in sport management from Northern Illinois in 2010.
