Nooner enters his first year in Carbondale with seven years experience coaching high school and AAU basketball in addition to seven years experience as a basketball instructor in the Kansas City, Mo., area.
The Kansas City native has coached the girls 13U and 15U teams for the Lady Phenom AAU organization since 2007 and previously coached the Earl Watson KC Bruins 17U boys team in 2006. Nooner also coached boys basketball at Southeast High School (2002-03, 2007-08) and Raytown High School (2008-09) during his six-years of teaching special education at the two schools.
In addition, Nooner has served as president of KC Pro Am Inc., a nonprofit organization that provides basketball instruction, since 2007, and has served as a personal basketball instructor at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City since 2006. He has been involved in training NBA players Chauncey Billups, Tyronn Lue and Billy Thomas as well as several college players.
Nooner was a four-year player at the University of Kansas, where he was the team captain during his senior season in 1999-2000. He holds two degrees from KU, including a bachelor's degree in African and African American Studies (2000) and a master's in sport administration (2002). Nooner has also completed credits toward a master's in special education from the University of Missouri Kansas City.
