    SIU VS. CHICAGO STATE
The Salukis are 3-1 all-time against Chicago State. The two teams last faced off in Chicago during the 2008-09 season, when the Cougars picked up their lone win in the series 71-68 in overtime. Both teams enter the matchup seeking their first win of the season. The Cougars fell to Loyola-Chicago 77-34 to open the season before dropping games to MVC member Northern Iowa 88-54 and Rice 77-50. Senior Janay Dockery and freshman Paris Williams have led CSU through three games with averages of 10.7 and 10.0 points per game respectively, while each averages a team-leading 4.0 rebounds. Senior guard Natalie Marlowe averages 4.3 assists per game. The Cougars have struggled to hold onto the ball early in the season, averaging 23.7 turnovers per contest.

SECOND HALF STRUGGLES COST SALUKIS AGAINST LOYOLA-CHICAGO
SIU led Loyola-Chicago 22-10 midway through the first half, but faded as the game wore on in an eventual 66-44 loss to the Ramblers Thursday at SIU Arena. The Salukis only scored two points in the final nine minutes of the game as Loyola distanced itself late. Teri Oliver led the Saluki effort with 18 points and three steals while Cartaesha Macklin added nine points and nine rebounds. Charnise Mitchell also corralled nine rebounds while CiCi Shannon blocked five shots.

    SALUKIS CARE
Sunday’s game against Chicago State will coincide with Southern Illinois Athletics’ “Salukis Care” promotion. Fans that bring a canned good to the game will be admitted for $1. All the canned goods collected will go to a southern Illinois area food pantry.

    OLIVER FOR THREE
Teri Oliver hit three 3-pointers Thursday against Loyola to move into a tie with Danette Jones (2001-05) for third in school history with 183 3-pointers made. Oliver needs to make five more 3-pointers to take over second place currently held by Karen Powell (1990-94) and nine to dethrone Karrie Redeker (1988-92) for most all-time at SIU. Oliver became SIU’s all-time leader in career 3-point attempts in the Salukis’ season-opener against Austin Peay.

    SHANNON’S BLOCK PARTY
Sophomore center CiCi Shannon’s five blocks against Loyola Thursday tied the eighth-highest single-game block total in school history. Shannon now holds six of the top 15 single-game block totals in school history. She also moved up to 88 career blocks and now stands 16 blocks shy of Kathy Kampwerth’s (1985-89) career blocks record.

    FROM CHI-TOWN TO C-DALE
Chicago State is one of three Chicago-area schools the Salukis will face this year. Southern faced Loyola-Chicago Thursday and will travel to the windy city Dec. 22 to take on DePaul. SIU has four players on its roster from the Chicagoland area, including freshmen Ariel Haynes, Jaleesa Armstrong and Mercedes Griffin along with sophomore CiCi Shannon.

    SALUKIS STAY IN-STATE
SIU’s 2011-12 schedule features matchups against seven different in-state schools. That is the most Illinois teams the Salukis have faced since the 1983-84 season. Southern is 226-132 all-time against other schools in the state of Illinois.
