    LAST TIME THEY MET
The Salukis topped the Cougars 76-54 last season in Carbondale, ending an MVC-record 22-game losing streak. Five Salukis scored in double figures led by 15 from Brooke LeMar and 13 from Cartaesha Macklin. The 22-point winning margin was SIU’s second largest of the season and its largest in non-conference play.

    LEADING THE SALUKIS
Sophomore guard Cartaesha Macklin leads SIU and ranks fifth in the MVC with an average of 14.2 points per game while freshman guard Rishonda Napier is second on the team at 10.0 points per game. SALUKIS TOP SISTER SCHOOL SIUE
Southern picked up its first road win of the season with a 68-63 victory over sister school SIU Edwardsville on December 21. Cartaesha Macklin scored 13 of SIU’s last 17 points to help the Salukis hold off a late-game push by the Cougars. Macklin finished the game with a game-high 18 points while Rishonda Napier tallied 13 points and Alexus Patterson added 11 points and eight rebounds. Also for the Salukis, forward Jameeka Bouie chipped in eight assists, the most by an SIU player this season.

    STARTING A STREAK
SIU enters its matchup with Chicago State searching for its first winning streak of the 2012-13 season. A win over the Cougars would give SIU its third win in five games heading into Missouri Valley Conference play January 3.

    SALUKIS VS. THE STATE
Southern finishes its non-conference schedule against in-state school Chicago State, having already played non-conference games against Illinois schools Loyola-Chicago and SIU Edwardsville. Along with its conference matchups against Bradley and Illinois State, the Salukis will play seven total games in Illinois this year. SIU is 228-138 all-time against other Illinois schools.

    ON THE ROAD AGAIN
SIU is winding down its longest road swing of the season, which started December 16 at Missouri. The Salukis play three consecutive road games over the intercession and won’t be back at SIU Arena again until opening Missouri Valley Conference play January 3 against Creighton.
