SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team sits in eighth place after 36 holes at the East/West Rio Verde Invitational Friday. The team shot 316 in the second round after posting 310 in the first round to drop four spots from day one.

Sophomore Josie Lowder leads the Salukis, maintaining her tie for eighth place (73-76--150). Freshman Christine Zoerlein (76-83--159) and senior Stefanie Pate (81-79--160) are tied for 41st and 47th respectively. Sophomore Natalie Parker (86-78--164) is tied for 66th while sophomore Samantha Sutzer (80-86--166) is tied for 76th. Sophomore Kelly Gerlach, who has been fighting an injury, did not compete.

"With Kelly's with drawl due to wrist injuries, she's questionable for tomorrow," Saluki head coach Diane Daugherty said. "Right now we're looking forward to tomorrow and if we finish in the top five I'll be pleased."

Michigan (604), Minnesota (610) and Ohio (614) maintain the top three places from day one. North Texas (620) moved up to take the fourth position followed by Iowa (622). Xavier (625) and host team Eastern Michigan (625) are tied for sixth, one stroke ahead of the Salukis (626). SIU leads fellow Missouri Valley Conference teams Bradley (628) and SMS (629) to round out the top ten.

The final round of competition will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. with a shotgun start. Live results can be found at www.golfstat.com or following competition at www.siusalukis.com.
