LAS VEGAS - The Southern Illinois women's golf team finished fourth at the Bison Invitational on Friday. Four Saluki golfers finished in the top 20 and two freshmen set 36-hole career bests at the tournament.
"My freshmen are coming into their own and playing consistent and extremely solid," head coach Alexis Mihelich said. "Amy (Lee) made five birdies today, which is awesome. Shaina (Rennegarbe) is really stepping up and playing her best golf since I've been here."
Freshmen Amy Lee and Mattie Lindner both set two-round career bests at the tournament. Lee tied for the team lead at the tournament and bested her previous career best two-round score with a 153. Lee's previous career best was a 154 when she won the SIUE DoubleTree Intercollegiate.
Lindner tied career best single-round scores in each of the two rounds of the tournament with back-to-back 77s. Her tournament total of 154 was her career best. Lindner tied for 15th overall, her highest career finish for the Salukis.
Shaina Rennegarbe tied with Lee to lead the team and tie for 12th overall. Rennegarbe finished in the top 15 for the second-straight tournament. Rennegarbe's two-round total was her lowest since the Cardinal Classic in 2010.
The Salukis topped the other Missouri Valley Conference School at the tournament, Creighton, by 25 strokes.
The Salukis travel directly to Cookesville, Tenn., for the Bobby Nochols Intercollegiate on March 18-19.
