PEORIA, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team sits in second place after day one at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational.
Three Salukis finished in the top ten after round one with Cassie Rushingin third place overall with a 150 (74-76) after 36 holes.
Margaret Gilley and Shaina Rennegarbeboth posted a 153 to tie for fifth as the Salukis tallied a 602 overall. They trailed leader Northern Iowa by just two strokes after the first 18 holes. But the Panthers pulled out a 295 in round two to the Salukis 308 to take a 15 stroke lead headed into tomorrow's final round.
Alisha Matthews tied for 11th with a 156 (78-78) and Ashleigh Rushingmade her debut in the top five lineup as she tied for 16th with a 159 (78-81).
As individuals, Jennifer Bernhardt tied for 11th with a 156 (81-75) and Ryann Gilleyrounds out all Saluki competitiors in a tie for 27th with a 162 (85-77).
The Dawgs will begin tomorrow's final round with a 8 a.m. shotgun start at WeaverRidge Golf Course.
