    PEORIA, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team took home second place at the Hotels at Grand Prairie Invitational Saturday.

    The Salukis finished 15 strokes behind first place Northern Iowa with a combined three-round score of 923 including a 311 in the final round at WeaverRidge Golf Course.  The Salukis have now finished in the top two in each of their spring tournaments and have a 40:3 win-loss ratio.  

    Cassie Rushing led the Salukis with a third place overall finish with a final three-round score of 227. She trailed winner Brittany Atterbury of UNI by seven strokes.

    "We had some highlights but I know we could have played better," SIU head coach Alexis Mihelich said "We are looking forward to facing UNI next weekend at the Creighton Classic."

    The Salukis had three top 10 finishes which included Rushing's third place finish. Shaina Rennegarbe came in fourth overall with a 229 (78-75-76) and Margaret Gilley tallied a 230 (74-79-77) to finish fifth.

    Alisha Matthews finished the round with a 77 to compile a 237 overall score which placed her 12th. Rounding out the top five finishers, Ashleigh Rushing finished in a tie for 22nd with a 242.

    Playing as individuals, Jennifer Bernhardt carded a 245 to finish in a tie for 29th while Ryann Gilley completed the tournament with an 86 to put her two-day total at 248 for 36th place.



    The Salukis are back in action Apr. 16-17 at the Creighton Classic in Omaha, Neb.
