    Normal, Ill. - Southern Illinois currently stands in fifth place after day one of the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Golf Championship which began today at the Illinois State University Golf Course.

    SIU, who is picked to win this year's MVC Championship, posted a first-round score of 325.

    Ranking one stroke behind tournament host Illinois State (324), the Salukis were led by Jennifer Shutt who carded a score of 80 (42-38). She was followed by Alison Hiller who lists tied for 12th after shooting an 81 (44-37).

    Also placing in the top 20 after day one were Kendra Hood and Stefanie Pate who each tied for 18th after shooting identical rounds of 82.

    Bradley (300) took the early lead among the eight-team field. The Braves stand ahead of Northern Iowa (312), Wichita State (315) and ISU (324), who also list in the top five.
