TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Southern Illinois women’s golf team sits in a tie for sixth place after the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship Sunday.
The Salukis struggled in the opening round, shooting a team score of 313 led by Cassie Rushing, who tied for sixth place after 18 holes at the Country Club of Terre Haute. They are tied with host Indiana State heading into tomorrow’s second of three rounds.
Rushing posted a 75 in the first round as she birdied three holes but was set back on the 18th where she posted a double bogey.
Ashleigh Rushing was tabbed as the Salukis No. 5 golfer heading into the tournament but posted the second-best round of the day in a tie for 11th with a 76.
The remaining three Salukis carded rounds in the 80s as Shaina Rennegarbe tied for 30th with an 80 and Alisha Matthews tied for 39th with an 82. Margaret Gilley finished with a tied for 41st performance shooting an 84.
