CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team placed third at the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Tuesday, hosted by Austin Peay. Ashleigh Rushing tied for ninth individually to lead the Salukis.
Ashleigh Rushing posted a top-10 individual finish for the third consecutive tournament, and she has been among the top 11 individuals in all four tournaments for the Salukis. She has led the team in three of the four tournaments so far this year.
"Ashleigh hit 15 greens and played awesome," head coach Alexis Mihelich said. "Her game is really coming around."
Cassie Rushing finished four shots behind her sister and tied for 13th overall. Shaina Rennegarbe (159, t-17th) and Amy Lee (160, t-20th) gave SIU four golfers in the top 20 in the 61-player field. Mattie Lindner (165, 36th) rounded out the Salukis scorers. Amber Phillips withdrew due to a family emergency.
The Salukis wore pink for today's round for breast cancer awareness month. Kathleen Curry, the mother of one of Coach Alexis Mihelich's friends, passed away from the disease in June, and the Salukis dedicated the round to her.
Jacksonville State won the tournament by 15 strokes over Morehead State. The individual champion belonged to Morehead State, Marisa Kamelgarn.
The Salukis are back on the links next Monday and Tuesday for the Blue Raider Intercollegiate.
