MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Cassie Rushing won her second career tournament and the Salukis placed fourth at the Blue Raider Invitational. Rushing beat her 54-hole career best by five strokes. In less than 18 months on the job, head coach Alexis Mihelich has guided SIU golfers to seven individual tournament titles out of 16 tournaments.

"Cassie is the hardest worker on the team," Mihelich said. "She played three consistent rounds and came out on top. The best part for us is that her best golf is still in front of her."

The team placed fourth in the tournament. Southern was tied for the team lead after shooting a 298 in the first round, and it didn't drop off much, shooting a 300 in the second round a 310 in the third round. The three-round team-score total of 908 was the best 54-hole team score under Mihelich, beating the previous best by eight strokes.

"I'm happy with how everyone played," Mihelich said. "We got into a groove where we were all playing well at the same time. That's the sign of a good team, and this team certainly showed what it's capable of."

The Salukis shot 13 strokes better than at the same tournament last year and finished two places higher. The top individual finisher for SIU placed 15 spots higher than last year's top SIU golfer at the same tournament.

Ashleigh Rushing narrowly missed her fourth consecutive top-10 finish by shooting a 225 and finishing tied for 11th. She set a 54-hole career best score, beating out her 227 she shot earlier this year at the Drake Creek Invitational.

Amy Lee tied for 41st, Shaina Rennegarbe tied for 51st, and Mattie Lindner tied for 81st to round out the Saluki lineup. The Salukis beat the only other Missouri Valley Conference team in the field, Northern Iowa, by 53 strokes.

The Salukis will wrap up the fall season with the Braun Intercollegiate in Boonville, Ind., next Monday and Tuesday.
