Women's Golf finishes sixth at Blue Raider Invite

By Megan Kramper MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - The SIU women's golf team wrapped up its fall season with a sixth place finish at the Blue Raider Invitational hosted by Middle Tennessee State on Tuesday. The Salukis remained in the same spot after round one as they shot a 921 overall score to complete the tournament. In the final round, the Salukis shot a 311 on the day with Cassie Rushing shooting the low round of 74. Margaret Gilley led the Salukis overall in a tie for 16th with her 227 overall three round total including an 80 in the final round. It was also her lowest three round total of the fall season. Cassie Rushing and Shaina Rennegarbe both finished in a tie for 21st with a 230 while Alisha Matthews tied for 35th with a 234. "I am most pleased with Shaina's performance in the three rounds," Head coach Alexis Mihelich said. "Sbe played her best tournament all season and her putting was really solid with her hard work paying off on the greens." Rounding out the Salukis was Ryann Gilley who tie for 50th with a 240 overall. As individuals Ashleigh Rushing tied for 46th (238) while Jennifer Bernhardt finished in a tie for 69th (249).
The host Blue Raiders took the tournament title with Lamar University, Arkansas State University, ULM, and UALR rounding out the top five. This concludes the fall season for the Salukis as they won two tournament titles and three individual titles in five tournaments.
