BOONVILLE, Ind. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team placed fourth at the Charles Braun, Jr., Intercollegiate on Tuesday, hosted by Evansville at Quail Crossing Golf Club. The Salukis were led by Cassie Rushing, who finished tied for sixth overall.
The Salukis held a six-shot lead heading into the final round but were set back by a second-round 324, their second-highest team score for a round this year. Northern Iowa, Indiana State and Eastern Kentucky climbed ahead of SIU to take the top three spots, respectively.
Cassie Rushing led the team for the second tournament in a row and tied for sixth individually in the 71-player field. The finish was the third top-six finish this fall for Rushing, and she concludes the fall season having finished among the top 15 at all six tournaments SIU played at this fall.
Shaina Rennegarbe turned in her best scorecard of the year, finishing with a 156, just one shot behind Rushing. Rennegarbe's eighth-place finish was the highest of the fall for her and her second top-10 finish so far this year.
Amy Lee (161), Mattie Lindner (162) and Ashleigh Rushing (165) rounded out the scoring Salukis. They tied for 19th, 25th and 33rd, respectively. The Salukis had at least four golfers among the top-25 individuals for the third time this season.
