CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's golf team is set to begin spring play at the Kiawah Island Classic in Kiawah Island, S.C. The 54-hole tournament will start on Sunday and run through Tuesday, with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. College of Charleston will serve as the tournament host with competition taking place on two courses, Cougar Point and Oak Point.

A total of 35 teams will be competing in the tournament, including Missouri Valley Conference rivals, Drake, Illinois State, Missouri State and Wichita State. The Salukis have been working hard, adjusting to less than desirable weather conditions and are ready to hit the links.

"We are excited to get to South Carolina where it is hopefully warmer than here," head coach Diane Daugherty said. "We are prepared as we can be considering the weather, we even played 18 holes in the snow last Saturday."

SIU will travel the freshman duo of Jenna Dombroski and Shaina Rennegarbe along with sophomores Alisha Matthews and Meg Gilley and junior Alex Anderson. Rennegarbe returns after missing a majority of the fall season due to mono. Daugherty is confident in the lineup this spring, excited to display SIU's depth of talent.

"We have Shaina Rennegarbe back and that makes us much deeper," Daugherty said.

Live hole-by-hole scoring will be available by Golfstat throughout the tournament. To access the site click here.
