PEKIN, Ill. -- Saluki women's golf looks to keep its momentum rolling this weekend at the Bradley Invitational, which will be played at the Pekin Country Club on Saturday and Sunday.
Southern will be one of six Missouri Valley Conference schools and one of 10 total schools at the invitational, SIU's last full tournament before the MVC Championships on April 20-22 in Springfield, Ill. -- hosted by Bradley. The invitational was originally slated to be a two-day, 54-hole competition at Weaver Ridge Golf Course in Peoria, Ill., but was moved to Pekin and shortened to 36 holes due to unplayable course conditions. The weather also cancelled today's practice round.
Last weekend the Salukis came away victorious at the Saluki Invitational, which was the third straight Saluki Invite win for SIU and the third tournament victory this season. Junior Kris Grimes led the way with a 36-hole total of 152 (eight-over par), which was good for an individual finish of third overall. Grimes wasn't alone at the top of the leaderboard, though, as each member of Southern's "A" squad finished within the top-15 -- including both Ashleigh (tied for sixth) and Cassie Rushing (tied for ninth) in the top-10 with Grimes. SIU showed some added depth as well, as "B" squad member Brooke Cusumano (fifth place) and individual competitor Kristie Yang (tied for sixth) also ranked within the top-10 at the end of play.
Round One will begin at 1 p.m. on Saturday, and the second and final round will be played at 9 a.m. Sunday.
